Statue of Liberty

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

A gift of friendship from the people of France, Statue of Liberty is located on a 12 acre island to welcome the New York Visitors. Without doubt, Lady Liberty goes alongwith the NY Skyscrappers…. If you are imaging a New York! If you are in the city, or planning to be in the city, here are the details you may want to know about this Grand National Monument.

Ferry to the Statue of Liberty leaves from NJ (Liberty State Park – NJTP exit 14) and NY (Battery Park). If you are driving from South or West, Liberty State Park will be a good start as they offer plenty of parking at a very nominal charge. If you are already in the city, take any train going to the World Trade Center, and then walk 3-4 blocks to Battery Park to take the ferry.

- There is an elevator for Monument Access which is temporarily closed for an extended period of time. So be ready to climb 168 steps to reach the top of the pedestal.
- If you want to reach the crown, another 354 steps (there is no elevator, steps are the only way!). But believe me, its worth it.
- To visit the crown area of the statue, you must make a reservation in advance and there are months waiting period, so be prepared.
- Tickets: $12 for ferry to access the Statue of Liberty and the island.(Not the Monument Access).
- Call 1-877-LADY-TIX or Go To www.statuecruises.com to buy tickets online.
- Time to visit each level may vary. Make sure to plan your day accordingly. Also consider the time to wait in the Q on the way to the island and same while returning.
- Ferry stops at the Ellis Island. A wonderful museum of immigration! Check out their site HERE.

Visitors to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island must pass through the security screening (Similar to the Airport Screening Process).

There is a very nice cafeteria for food and drinks.

I have tried to keep the information as latest as possible, but I still recommend you to check the official site for Statue Of Liberty.
